Creating an offline interactive touchscreen presentation for a trade show

Creating an offline interactive touchscreen presentation for a trade show

We have exhibited at many trade shows over the last 15 years, and they are a great opportunity to showcase your products and services to potential new clients. Having engaging videos, images, or interactive presentations can make all the difference in capturing the attention of attendees.

But what happens when you rely on WiFi from the show organizer, mobile phone hotspots, or a data connection from a long-forgotten mobile dongle? Many exhibitors have faced the frustration of their impressive, interactive content being stuck loading or running too slowly. So, how can you run content offline at a trade show?

Offline Trade Show Display Solutions

Our Commercial Trade Show Display Range can run content from either an Android Media Player or a Windows Computer. Both options can be integrated into the screen or connected externally via HDMI and a USB touch input.

Our Android Media Players can be set up to use My Signage Portal, which allows images, videos, and touch playlists to be saved locally on the media player. Once the content is downloaded, no live internet connection is needed.

We also regularly install Android Kiosk Apps on media players, depending on client requirements:

  • Kiosk Browser: Locks down websites (live only).
  • Kiosk Launcher: Locks down a single app or multiple applications.

One fantastic tool for creating dynamic and interactive presentations is Genially. This blog post will guide you through the steps to create and export a touchscreen presentation from Genially that works seamlessly in Kiosk Browser, even offline.

Why Use Genially for Trade Show Presentations?

Genially is an intuitive platform for designing highly interactive presentations, infographics, and multimedia-rich experiences. Its drag-and-drop functionality and wide range of interactive elements make it a great choice for creating touch-friendly content at trade shows.

Key Benefits:

  • Engaging Interactivity: Incorporate clickable elements, animations, and embedded videos.
  • Professional Designs: Access high-quality templates to create visually appealing content.
  • User-Friendly Interface: No advanced coding skills required to create stunning touchscreen experiences.

Steps to Create and Export an Offline-Ready Genially Presentation

Follow these steps to ensure your Genially presentation runs offline and works seamlessly in an Android kiosk mode.

1. Design Your Interactive Presentation in Genially

  • Sign in to Genially and create a new presentation.
  • Use buttons, clickable areas, and navigation links to guide users through the content.
  • Optimize your presentation for touchscreen interactions.

2. Enable Offline Download in Genially

  • Once your presentation is complete, go to the “Download” option.
  • Select the “HTML” format for offline use.
  • Download the ZIP file and extract it to obtain the offline HTML file.

3. Test the HTML File on a Desktop Browser

Before transferring the file to your Android device:

  • Open the HTML file in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
  • Ensure all interactive elements, navigation, and media files work correctly.

4. Transfer the Offline Presentation to an Android Device

  • Copy the extracted HTML folder to your Android device using USB, cloud storage, or a file-sharing app.
  • Save the files in an accessible location and copy the file path for easy retrieval.

5. Set Up an Android Kiosk Browser for the Offline Genially Presentation

To create a locked-down, seamless user experience:

  • Install an Android Kiosk Browser (e.g., Fully Kiosk Browser, SureFox).
  • Open the Kiosk Browser and set the startup page to the local HTML file (paste the file path).
  • Lock down navigation controls to keep users within the presentation.

 6. Test Your Presentation in Kiosk Mode

  • Disable WiFi and Ethernet on your media player.
  • Open the Kiosk app, and the offline HTML file should auto-load.
  • Interact with all elements to verify functionality.
  • Adjust kiosk settings to disable gestures, status bar access, or other distractions.

Using Genially to create an offline touchscreen presentation for trade shows is an excellent way to deliver an interactive and engaging experience without relying on an internet connection. By exporting your Genially project as an HTML file and running it in an Android Kiosk Browser, you can ensure a smooth and professional presentation that captivates your audience.

Whether you’re displaying product information, an interactive company portfolio, or an engaging storytelling experience, this method will help you maximise your impact at your next trade show.
