The Philips D-Line displays come in two main variants regarding processing capabilities: Android SoC (System on Chip) and No SoC.
Android SoC Version
- Built-in Processor: These displays have an integrated Android-based System on Chip inside the screen.
- Key Benefits:
- No external media player required.
- Runs Android apps directly on the display (e.g., digital signage software, web apps).
- Comes with Philips’ Android platform preloaded—typically allows for remote management, scheduling, and content playback.
Ideal for all-in-one signage solutions.
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi, LAN, and sometimes Bluetooth depending on the model.
- Usage: Plug-and-play solution for users who want a smart display ready to go without adding additional hardware or external Media Players.
No SoC Version
- No internal processor: These displays are essentially “dumb” displays. They require an external source such as a network media player or signage box to function.
- Key Benefits:
- More customisable hardware options - ideal if you want to use your own player (e.g., 4K Network Media Player, Windows/Linux box).
- Often used in environments where the signage system is already standardised on external hardware.
- Usage: Best for large deployments with a centralised hardware strategy or when specific software compatibility is needed that isn’t available on Android.
